Who are The Hippies?

The hippies were a countercultural movement that emerged in the United States and spread to other parts of the world in the 1960s.

Hippies represent a group of people who move out of the society to lead an ideal life. "The Great American Dream" Subjects the materialistic goals of a human being and Hippies are those who rejected those kinds of materialistic pleasure. To live ideally one need not follow a group.

Utopian society can be well dreamt of but hard to put into practice. Utopians are not those who disregard the present day society but instead aim for a perfect society. Hippies are peace loving and anti-war people. They are usually vegetarians. They were out of the society and opposed the widely accepted norms a social class. For that they were arrested frequently and were sent to jail. Music was an integral part of the movement.  They were usually alienated from the society. It all began in the 60's with the youth of America. It had a greater influence on most of the youth of the nation. This movement is of great historical importance.

Most writers were very much influenced by this movement. This is because a writer should stand aloof from society and scrutinize it deeply to write about it. The same way were the Hippies. They opposed every usual terminology but they weren't rebels on the whole. This movement has attracted media attention to a wider extent. Their gesture of having flowers on their hair represents their anti-war sense. They protested on the streets, but only for a noble cause. However, this movement didn't last for a long time. All were seized by the time when it was 80's. But, it represented a seed for those libertarian movements that originated later. This wasn't an ideal movement but their aim and motto focussed on being ideal. This movement has proved the world that the Youth of the nation can make revolutions.
